Stamford Hill West LTN

Local residents in Stamford Hill West, fed up with the large volume of through traffic and frankly dangerous driving, are now starting to campaign for changes in this part of Hackney. The proposal covers two areas: firstly, new traffic filters, and secondly, proper enforcement of the existing School Street on Fairholt Road outside Sir Thomas Abney school.

Traffic filters
We propose three filters to stop through traffic clogging up Stamford Hill West and using the area as a cut-through:
  1. A filter on the railway bridge on Dunsmure Road
  2. A filter on Fairholt Rd
  3. A filter on Bethune Rd (could possibly be combined into one with the Fairholt filter)

In future we propose extending the LTN by adding a filter on Lordship Road to create a fantastic new green corridor between East and West Reservoirs, a kind of linear park open to pedestrians and cyclists.

School Street
The existing School Street on Fairholt Road is heavily abused by drivers who simply ignore the signs. Additionally, the enforcement cameras have been vandalized on multiple occasions so that they simply point upwards to the sky, meaning drivers don’t get fined for ignoring the signs.

The good news is that Hackney Council have installed new higher poles for the cameras, but they too have been vandalised. The Council are aware of this and say they are working on a plan to ensure this can't keep happening.
