Rectory Road
We are working with Rectory Road residents to campaign for improvements to safety and the environment on this busy Hackney A-road.

Rectory Road is part of the A10 Stoke Newington Gyratory. There are two Department for Transport count points on the road which show around 13,000 daily vehicles on the south part of the road and around 16,000 using the northern part.
It is dominated by traffic and an important bus route. It also contains the Linden Children and Family Hub, and the important green space of Stoke Newington Common. Finally, it is a residential road, with many houses, particularly along the southern half, in very close proximity to the road.
Residents tell us it is unsafe, afflicted with speeding and dangerous driving and suffering from very high pollution and noise.
It is lacking sufficient crossings and one arm of the junction over Evering Road even lacks a Pelican crossing with a green man, leaving residents struggling to get safely across.

We are supporting Rectory Road Residents Association (RERA) in their campaign for:
- A continuous 24/7 operating bus lane right along Rectory Road and Manse Road
- 20mph average speed cameras to cover the length from Northwold Road to the end of Manse Road to deal with endemic speeding along the one-way section
- Tree planting along the residential stretch of Rectory/Manse Road to reduce air pollution, provide shade, cooling and soften a hostile environment
- Repaving of all pavements to provide a safe smooth surface for pedestrians and improve accessibility
- Continuous level side road pavement/crossings to improve safety and accessibility
- A Pelian crossing over Evering Road on the east side of Rectory Road
- Removal of parking between 25-99 Rectory Road to create space for loading bays, tree planting, bike hangers and cycle hire bays. Any remaining parking bays to be included within a Controlled Parking Zone
We (Low Traffic Hackney) also believe the road may benefit from parking removal opposite Linden Children and Family Hub, a speed table and road narrowing / pavement widening on the west side using the parking space to narrow the crossing gap and slow traffic, and a new level pedestrian crossing in this location.
