Here’s a brief look at changes we’ve noticed during July
Starting with some good things:
Green Lanes wands are back!
Green Lanes wands are back!
We’re very pleased to see the Green Lanes cycle lane has had many of its missing wands reinstated.
This much used cycle lane was becoming less safe by the week as more and more wands went missing, so this is good news for anyone who cycles there.
Boleyn Road
The delayed northbound traffic filter on Boleyn Road , part of the Mildmay Liveable Neighbourhood scheme, (meaning motor vehicles will only be able to drive north towards Newington Green but not the other way) still hasn’t been started, but we’re told it's coming this autumn. This is great news for local residents and the large number of cyclists who use this route. We will be monitoring closely!
Bohemia Place
The upgrade of Bohemia Place in Hackney Central is complete, meaning you can now cycle safely between Hackney Central station and Churchwell Path. The new arch under the railway looks pretty good too!
Brooke Road junction with Evering Road
The now permanent filter at the junction of Brooke Road and Evering Road has been significantly improved with a large area of planting. It really does look quite stunning.
Bradstock Road crossing
The new raised crossing over Cassland Road has been built and is now open. The aim is to reduce the speed of motor traffic thundering down Cassland and make it easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists to cross over.
A big thank you to Hackney councillors and officers for making these improvements happen.
Dalston Liveable Neighbourhood
Yes, we’re still waiting. The Dalston Liveable Neighbourhood was signed off in February, and we were promised that implementation of phase 1 would start in June with phase 2 starting in September. The Dalston plan is great. What's the delay?
We keep hearing that leaflets will be delivered to local residents, and the formal consultation opened, but so far, nothing. Recently we were told this would all happen in July, which hasn’t happened. Local residents are desperate for implementation to begin as soon as possible, and we hope that will happen after the temporary closure of Dalston Lane ends in early September.
The Council’s Transport lead very recently told one local resident:
“I fully acknowledge and share your concerns regarding the pace of the Dalston Liveable Neighbourhood project. Having monitored this initiative closely over the last few years, we are also eager to see some spades in the ground soon.
Overall, officers assure me that we are now back on track and although the programme was affected by the elections and by election we should be able to deliver the scheme as planned although the dates have now changed.”
Argos site police raid
Argos site police raid
In positive news, the police eventually raided the building where Argos used to be on Sandringham Road to make it secure. Since Argos moved out it’s been used for parties and according to local residents had become known for drug dealing and other anti-social behaviour. The police found a large number of stolen bikes when they raided it.
